8 Things I Keep in My Husband Journal

After the last post (3 Reasons to Write to Your Future Husband), I thought I would show you a few things I keep in my journal.

Bible (5)
1) Prayers for him

Seriously, the best way you can love anyone is by praying for them. Praying for my future husband is just one way I can bless him and even play a part in his growth now.

2) Prayers for myself

I ask God to teach me through current circumstances. To deepen my love for other people and the person I’ll spend the rest of my life with. To give me patience and discernment while I’m single.

There’s no reason to sit around pining for marriage when you can invest time in prayer!

3) Prayers for us together

I want my marriage to be built on prayer before it even begins, so I ask God to help us create a strong foundation now. I pray for our friendship, dating relationship, and our unity as a married couple.

4) Bible verses

I set aside a couple pages for references that remind me to pray for him and our marriage. One page is for verses specifically for him, and the other I use for verses on marriage and the home.

5) Marriage advice

I haven’t done this for a while, but I like to write down marriage advice from older couples, professors, and Christian influencers. It’s always beneficial to learn from other people’s lives!

6) Letters

I like telling him about life right now and what I’m learning, and share my thoughts about our future relationship. There’s so much you can include in letters to your future husband! It’s fun thinking of ways to make them special.

7) Lists

I live on check-lists and sticky notes, so I keep plenty of lists in this journal too. 😉  I write lists of songs I wanna remember, fun things to do together, and lots of other things.

8) Vows

I want to live intentionally and not just do my own thing until I’m married. My purpose is to be fully committed to Christ, and then my husband.

God already knows who I’ll marry, and I’m committed to saving myself for him and faithfully loving him right now. Every January I write vows to him and this helps me stay intentional and prioritize carefully.

A note from Kenan…

Since my sister-in-law wrote the last post, I thought it’d be fun to share what my brother Kenan (her husband) said about this journal.

“My favorite thing about receiving the journal the day of our wedding, was just seeing how Brittney in a way had always loved me and always been looking forward to her wedding day. It was cool to see that she had prayed for me even when she didn’t know who I was. You read those entries and realize that God is sovereignly involved in all of the details of our life.”
